Obesity has been an issue since 1979, according to a survey done by the National Hospital Discharge. This group of male doctors analyzed the way obesity affected the cost and also diseases. It said in their article, “we analyzed the changes in obesity-associated diseases and economic costs in youths (6–17 years of age) over time.Results. From 1979–1981 to 1997–1999, the percentage of discharges with obesity-associated diseases increased. The discharges of diabetes nearly doubled (from 1.43% to 2.36%), obesity and gallbladder diseases tripled (0.36% to 1.07% and 0.18% to 0.59%, respectively), and sleep apnea increased fivefold (0.14% to 0.75%). Ninety-six percent of discharges with a diagnosis of obesity listed obesity as a secondary diagnosis. Asthma and some mental disorders were the most common principal diagnoses when obesity was listed as a secondary diagnosis.” Also this survey was done doctors that are from Atlanta, Georgia. This issue also had problems with the economy. The way in the economy is not good for many people it affects the lower class more than the higher wealthier class. Obesity is more lightly to be with people that struggle every day in life, how it show in the following statistic.The percent that is being affected, “coincidentally, 33.8 percent of the U.S. population is affected by obesity and 19 percent of children and adolescents are also affected.” Fast food restaurant are one of the biggest enemy that people have to face every day because of their food is not healthy enough. People do not notice this but, “you could easily take in 1,500 calories from just one meal alone. Keep in mind that a general caloric recommendation for Americans is 1,500-1,800 calories per-day and around 50-60 grams of total fat. Choosing a typical fast food meal every day can lead to increased calories which can lead to weight gain and can lead to other health conditions like heart disease.”3 This statistic show how the amount of calories affects you and your body with one meal, it is something that every one should know the amount of calories they are in taking to there body.
